Title: WinMPQ does not work with WoW partial patchfiles
Post by Ap0ll013 on Sep 11th, 2007, 11:22pm

Hi there,

WinMPQ (and every other MPQ Editor, too) is not able to extract partial WoW patchfiles properly. When i extract the archive every file comes out empty.

I tried it with Ladiks MPQ Editor (http://zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html) and it seems that his editor only has some problems with the beginning of the files inside the mpq, the first bytes (about 20-30) of almost every file i extracted do not contain normal data but garbage. For example, the realmlist.wtf (standard textfile) looks like this:

Code:
         Z   r>½set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>

This is what the file should look like:

Code:
set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com

So it seems that Ladiks MPQ Editor can manage partial patchfiles better than WinMPQ, but not good enough :( Perhaps you can get some info from him.

I uploaded the two partial files of the actual WoW patch so that you can have a look at it:
http://rapidshare.com/files/55038461/wow-partial-1.MPQ
http://rapidshare.com/files/55040281/wow-partial-2.MPQ

Ok it could be that the information the extractor needs is only delivered with the final part of the patch but i dont believe this.
Would be great if WinMPQ is able to manage these files in the future.

If you need more files, i have 120 kb/s upload so i can send you the bigger wow files, too^^

/edit: added 2nd file
