For some reason I can't create players 9-11 with a random race. In the txt file that came with scm it says to put them as Use Map Settings, except that is not one of the options. Which option should I take?

That's 'User Select' not use map settings. It says to use 'User Select' to have a random computer player race when using the 'Use Map Settings' game type in StarCraft.

I tried putting 9-12 in as user select, and I have the start locations in as well. But when the game starts, there is nothing at any of the spots. I have the player types set as computer for both staredit and starcraft. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I don't know if it's possible to use random for players 9-12. They don't require a start location, so I don't think StarCraft will even use the start location. Units created from random go at the start location.
