"Problem with "add" in WinMPQ" , Mon 27 Aug 02:52 post reply

Sorry for my bad american language but I'm french and
french sites of starcraft aren't very less good than
american sites.

I have made a campaign and I would use a custom MPQ
so I nust extract all files CHK and wav from all maps
of my campaign ( 15 maps) and I must put all files in
the MPQ but I must so use the command add of WinMPQ
which seams to be the best software for compil MPQ
but the problem is that all wav files have a very bad
compression compared at the rate of compression of
staredit even if a choose high compression in Winmpq
box dialog. My question is so: it's normal tahu a files wav
of 4 MB is only compressed with a rate of 29 % with the high
compression against 79 % with staredit great compression ?

Thank for the answer !

I'm the poor french in the middle of all Americans
sniff !

Your english wasn't too bad. :)

Maybe you should open your MPQ, go to the menu, click Mpq, Compression, audio, and the pick the highest (least space). Audio files are .wavs. Then go to Mpq and use Flush to compress it even more. That might help.

The wav compression option with the lmpqapi library, which WinMPQ uses, doesn't really seem to compress files any better than regular compression. Mpq2k's wav compression also does the same, so it isn't a problem with WinMPQ.

If you still think it's a problem though, then you could load the waves into a scm first, and then use MPQ2K to delete the chk file from it and add all the other files you'd like to add.

With MPQDraft in the near future, it might becompe possible to use MP3's instead of WAV's.
