Would editing my map in .CHK file make my file decompress better?

I never had any such problem with protecting maps with the MPQ2K version of SCMToolkit. In fact, when I permanent protect maps with SCMToolkit, they actually decrease in size, sometimes by up to 50%. This is because the sections that staredit uses get "nuked" or basically corrupted. Then when the map is saved it compresses/compacts better resulting in a smaller file size.

If you're using the MPQControl version of SCMToolkit, try the MPQ2K version.
